The Indian Premier League will see a titanic clash between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants in Qualifier 1 in a Maharashtra Derby for a third time this season. The winner of the game will go straight to the finals of the competition while the losing will take on winner of game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Pune will be confident that they can win this game against Mumbai after doing the double against two-time champions this season. Rising Pune Supergiant decimated Kings XI Punjab by nine wickets to seal their place in the playoffs. Ajinkya Rahane will be keen to score big runs as batsman has not been his best this season. Steven Smith, Rahul Tripathi and Ben Stokes have regularly chipped in with regular scores for Pune. Jaydev Unadkat and Imran Tahir have been excellent so far in the competition. Ben Stokes has produced the good for Pune scoring 316 runs and taking 12 wickets in his debut season. But Englishmen will not be available for the playoffs which might be a setback for Pune going into the contest. Imran Tahir is also not available as he went back to South Africa.
Mumbai Indians will be without Jos Buttler but Lendl Simmons have done superbly well in his place in the competition. Saurabh Tiwary and Ambati Rayudu played well in the last game while Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard will have hold key for Mumbai due to their experience in playing such high-octane games. Mumbai have potent bowling lineup such Mitchell McClenaghan and Jaspreet Bumrah producing impressive numbers with the ball this season. Harbhajan Singh will also crucial for Mumbai in the middle overs of the innings.
Players to watch out for
Rohit Sharma will be important for Mumbai as captain will be keen to put in a big performance. Sharma does have a knack of producing big innings in pressure situations.
Rahul Tripathi is one player that has done exceedingly well this season as an opener. The youngster has been superb as he needs to get Pune off to a great start if they want to upstage Mumbai in their backyard.
