Match Information:

Adelaide Strikers have been on a winning roll, registering emphatic wins against Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder recently; they are at the top of the table with 10 points and will take on Perth Scorchers, who are placed second with 10 points, on 13th January at Alice Springs. Scorchers have also been performing well, winning against Melbourne Renegades but losing the match against Sydney Thunder by 3 runs; they will be eager to lead the table with another win on Saturday. It needs to be seen which of these strong contenders can acquire 2 more points by dominating the other here.

Chasing 152 runs against Stars, wicket-keeper and opening batsman Alex Carey posted a well-made 59 off 52 to build a good foundation along with Travis Head, who scored 53 off 32. Jake Weatherald and Colin Ingram made useful contributions, and they won the match by 8 wickets with more than an over to spare. Earlier, the bowlers combined their skills well to provide regular breakthroughs; Billy Stanlake, Michael Neser, Peter Siddle, Ben Laughlin and spinner Rashid Khan took a wicket each to restrict the Stars to 151.

Batting first against Sydney Thunder, they could muster only 158 runs but the bowlers put up a stupendous show to contain the opposition and win the match by 25 runs. Michael Neser registered 3-29 while Rashid Khan and Peter Siddle provided 2 breakthroughs each. Silly Stanlake and Ben Laughlin dismissed one opponent each, and the Thunder batsmen were out for 133 runs. With the bat, Colin Ingram posted 48 off 31 while Alex Carey and others down the line kept the scoreboard ticking.

The Strikers have done well so far and will be eager to keep their winning momentum going by outwitting the Scorchers on Saturday.

With a target of 176 against Sydney Thunder, the batting line-up crumbled under pressure after the quick dismissals of players like Michael Klinger, Ashton Turner and captain Adam Voges. Cameron Bancroft continued his good form, scoring an unbeaten 75 while Hilton Cartwright contributed with a well-made 65 but the duo couldn’t steer the team across the finish line, leading to a painful defeat. Earlier, speedsters Tim Bresnan and Matthew Kelly took 3 wickets between them while spinner Aston Agar provided one breakthrough; however, the others proved to be expensive.

When they met Melbourne Renegades, pacers Andrew Tye and Mitchell Johnson took 3 wickets between them, but they couldn’t contain the run-flow of the opponents, leading to a huge target of 186. David Willey came to the rescue, providing the required impetus by scoring 55 off 41 while Ashton Turner posted a well-made 70 off just 32 balls to take the team to a fine victory by 5 wickets.

The Scorchers suffered an upset against Sydney Thunder recently, but they have the required resources to make a comeback here.
