England produced a pitch perfect game against South Africa played at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds. The hosts delivered in their first home game against no.1 side in limited overs cricket to win the contest by 72 runs. South Africa failed to cope with ever-climbing run-rate after England put up 339 runs on the board after Eoin Morgan’s century and Moeen Ali brisk half centuries.
Morgan and co. will be determined to clinch the series in the second game at Rose Bowl on Saturday. England did outclass South Africa in all three facets of the game reminding everyone in world cricket they were certainly be favorites for the forthcoming Champions Trophy 2017 starting from 1st June. Ben Stokes did not bowl after suffering from minor injury which might be concern for England going into this game. David Willey might get a game in place of Stokes but Durham all-rounder should be fine for the game.
South Africa needs to quickly regroup as three-match series means if they lose this one , they will lose the series. Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis looked in sublime touch and could not register three figure score as visitors lost wickets at key moments in the first game. AB de Villiers has been a shadow of a player since his comeback as ace batsman will need time to find his purple patch after an indifferent four months.
Quinton de Kock will need to fire at the top while David Miller must come good for the side to help them get a good score on the board. Kagiso Rabada might be rested as Morne Morkel might be slotted into the side to change things up in terms of bowling. Imran Tahir was taken apart by Moeen Ali as leg-spinner will hold key for South Africa in the middle phase of the innings. Chris Morris and Andile Phehlukwayo did well with the ball.

Quinton de Kock has produced blistering innings as opener for South Africa. De Kock has enjoyed a golden run with the bat across all three formats. The left-handed batsman will keen to score runs for the side to help them draw level in the three-match series.
Joe Root is England’s best batsman at the moment as he will be focused to get among the runs before the start of Champions Trophy. All eyes will be on the Yorkshire men when he takes the field at Southampton.
