Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Preview
It is going to be a big milestone for Bangladesh test side as they will gear up for their 100th test with a clash against Sri Lanka at P Sara Oval in Colombo on Wednesday. The game is scheduled to start at 10:00 IST.
Sri Lanka dominated the proceedings in the first test played at Galle as they completed a big win against Bangladesh by 259 runs. Kusal Mendis was the man of the moment as he played well to take Sri Lanka well beyond 450 runs in the first innings. Mendis experienced a lull in the format against South Africa but showed no signs of rustiness to carve out another splendid ton against the likes of Mehedi Hasan Miraaz and Mustafizur Rahman. Niroshan Dickwella passed with flying colors in his first outing in whites for Sri Lanka as added big runs with Mendis to see the hosts dominate the game from Day 1 of the first test.
Upul Tharanga also contributed by scoring a ton in second innings while Rangana Herath bagged nine wickets to see Sri Lanka dismiss Bangladesh inside two sessions on the last day at Galle. Dilruwan Perera was decent with the ball.
Bangladesh will be not pleased with their performance as bigwigs like Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan got starts and failed to kick on to get a big score for the side. Iqbal needs to fire for the visitors if they want to aim for a win in their 100th test match. Mushfiqur Rahim played well in the first game but lack of support from the other end meant that he had to play a much defensive role due to the situation. Soumya Sarkar has come really come in place of injured Imrul Kayes but will need to learn not to give it away after a decent start. Mustafizur Rahman picked up wickets and will getter as he plays more games for Bangladesh. Mehedi Hasan Miraaz was also among wickets. Imrul Kayes will play as Mahmudullah is axed from the test squad following his run in test cricket.
Players to watch out for
Upul Tharanga is certainly on a roll with his comeback into the test side as left handed batsman has weight of experience behind him to be a prominent fixture in the lineup. Tharanga could once again be amongst runs in the second test as he seems to be growing in confidence with every game.
Tamim Iqbal is best player for Bangladesh in test cricket as the side will be hoping he produces a big one in Colombo to level the series. Iqbal was instrumental in Bangladesh historic win against England at Chittagong.
