51st game of Indian Premier League at 08:00 IST at Wankhede Stadium
Kings XI will face off Mumbai Indians in a must-win game in the 51st game of Indian Premier League to be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Glenn Maxwell’s side produced a resilient show with bat and ball to upstage Kolkata Knight Riders.
Maxwell was pleased with the performance especially their death bowling to help Punjab eke out a win out of nowhere after Chris Lynn’s early onslaught of 84 runs. The bowlers assessed the conditions quickly as Kolkata lost momentum to concede a defeat. Punjab will feel that they need to produce better if they want to topple Mumbai at Wankhede. The last clash saw Jos Buttler and Nitish Rana produced a swift performance with the bat to chase down a score of 198 runs after Hashim Amla maiden ton propelled Kings XI to put up a daunting total on the board.
Mumbai have already clinched their place in the playoffs but Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to beat them comfortably in the last game. Rohit Sharma played a lone hand in the innings as the rest of batting lineup failed to adequate support to their captain. Mahela Jayawardene is Head Coach of Mumbai Indians feels Mumbai must finish top in order make sure they play the playoff at home. The side did show weakness against slow bowlers but Punjab will need to come up with a better plan in order to spoil the party at Wankhede.
Players to watch out for
Nitish Rana is one player that has done well this season but of late in the last couple of games has gone under the radar. Rana must be keen to pile on the runs as Indian Premier League is reaching its last stage with playoffs to start within a weeks’ time.
Martin Guptill is swashbuckling batsman who must produce big runs for Punjab. The New Zealand opener does have a knack of playing a blinder in the format. He needs to come good if Punjab wants to produce a win at Wankhede.
