Cricket Betting Tips
Australia won the fourth game to finally get on the board in the series and even though it was a little too to matter, the win will still give them some respite from the building criticism around them. England was well and truly blown away in the first half an hour of the match and actually recovered well to make a match of it in the end. The last match of the ODI series is one that both teams will want to win and take some momentum with them into the T20 contests.
An absolutely brilliant bowling performance by Australia was the catalysts behind their victory in the last match. The return of Josh Hazelwood into the ODI lineup has made a huge difference and with Pat Cummins breathing fire as well, there was a point in the match when it looked like Australia would be chasing less than 100.
After a lot of talk about Australia needing to reinvent its style of cricket but in the end it was their tried and trusted method of going hard at the opposition with bog fast bowlers that worked wonders. The fact that they were missing Mitchell Starc in the bowling lineup is even scarier.
Keeping the strong England batting down to under 200 is an unbelievable achievement for their bowling but the batting effort that followed would not have pleased Australia.
David Warner, Cameron White, and Steve Smith once again failed to score runs and things could have been a little tricky for them considering that Aaron Finch was also not available. Travis Head, though, stepped up and scored a brilliant 96 that helped seal the chase.
We are still a little skeptical of how well Australia will be able to manage a big chase with their faltering lineup at the moment, at least until David Warner finally shakes of his prolonged slump. Australia would also be worried that even after having England at 5 down for just 8 runs on the board, they still let them reach almost 200 runs.
That is the kind of batting depth that Australia can only dream of at the moment.
Australia does not have the squad to try and emulate England’s style of play and will be served better by continuing to back their own strengths instead.
We have been talking about England’s propensity to implode every so often, something that is to be expected with their combination of batsman that go hard no matter what. Jason Roy, after his incredible inning in the opening match, has yet to contribute any more in the series, and the same has been the case with the other batsman.
We think it was Joe Root’s wicket early in the innings that really put England on the back foot because he has perfected his role of playing the anchor role in ODI cricket.
England has the batting to continue taking an aggressive approach all throughout the innings and this was proven in this worst case scenario inning that unfolded in the last match. Chris Woakes batting at number 8 top-scored with an aggressive 78 and even Tom Curran coming in at number 10 showed that he is more than useful with the bat.
This kind of batting depth is unparalleled in world cricket right now and we would venture s far as to say that no team in the history of ODI cricket has enjoyed such a potent batting lineup.
Of course, one thing that happens with England stacking themselves so heavily in the batting is that their bowling can sometimes feel a little weak. Chris Woakes, Tom Curran, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid and Mark Wood are all genuine bowlers but they do not have a genuine pacer, lack someone to bowl Yorkers at the death, and the spinners can be put under pressure quite easily.
Maybe the return of Ben Stokes could be something that will change things for England but up until then they must find a way to maximize their bowling resources.
The fifth ODI will be played at the new Perth Stadium and we are unsure of what the pitch will be exactly like. The preference of the players is to have a surface which is reminiscent of the old WACA pitch which breathed fire but how realistic is for that to happen will only be seen later.
We think a flat batting surface is much more likely to be seen and in fact that drop in pitches tend to be a little on the slower side.
The weather of the match is going to be sunny and perfect for cricket.
