Match Information

The Perth Scorchers and the Adelaide Strikers have both qualified for the finals and locked down home-semi-finals as well. This last league match for both the teams is going to be about determining who tops the league table and will also be the last scheduled match at the WACA before the Scorchers shift to the new stadium. While there may not be too much on the line when it comes to tournament stakes, this is a contest that could very well be replayed in the grand final and that gives it extra importance.

The Perth Scorchers won their last game against the Hobart Hurricanes in a thrilling last over finish and that win typified how much the team has changed from the beginning of this season. A loss of plenty of first choice players meant that the Scorchers were overly dependent on their bowling in the first few matches. Now, partly because of their bowlers having done so well, international call-ups have been handed down to Andrew Tye and Jhye Richardson, testing the Scorchers bowling depth as well.

Thankfully, the return of Shaun Marsh and Cameron Bancroft has added plenty of depth to the batting and in our opinion made the Perth Scorchers a better-balanced side.

Mitchell Johnson, Joel Paris, and Ashton Agar will ensure that the bowling continues to be difficult for the opposition to face as well.

The Perth Scorchers also have Ashton Turner and Hilton Cartwright in their ranks who are among the two most dangerous batsmen in the competition. Turner, in particular, is in superb form and has won more than a couple of matches for the Perth Scorchers off his own bat.

This batting lineup is going to be pushed to its limits against an excellent Adelaide Strikers bowling attack but the memory of having beaten them one already this season should serve them well. We think that Bancroft is going to be the chief tormenter to the Strikers and his tussle with Rashid Khan could be very important.

Adelaide Strikers

Alex Carey and Travis Head made their way back into the team for the last match against the Renegades. Carey is expected to be available for the Scorchers once again now that Tim Paine is fit but Travis Head will go back and join the Australian squad.

With Head no longer available, a lot of additional pressure will be put upon Colin Ingram. The former South African international has found his range over the last few matches and is looking in excellent touch. He now has two fifties in the tournament along with a team-high 13 sixes to his name.

The problem for the Strikers is a lack of dependable support for these two players. Jake Lehmann is unconvincing and even though Jake Weatherald scored a few runs recently, his tournament has been extremely poor overall.

Jonathan Wells is probably the one batsman that the Strikers will hope can step up and add some lower order heft to their lineup.

The batting, though, has been a distant second to their bowling when it comes to match winning potential all this season. Rashid Khan has lived up to all the hype around him and been very difficult to score off. He has also picked up crucial wickets at difficult times in the matches making him a true impact bowler.

With excellent support from Ben Laughlin, Billy Stanlake, Michael Neser, and Peter Siddle, this Adelaide Strikers team can make chasing any target very difficult against them.

A hot and humid day has been forecast for the last match to be played at the WACA by the Perth Scorchers. The pitch has been excellent for cricket this entire season and although it does not have the venom that was shown in the test match, there is still a little something in it for the fast bowlers.

A score of around 160-170 should be considered par.
