Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 1st Odi Preview
Bangladesh produced a first-rate performance to clinch a famous win in their 100th Test to level the two-match test series 1-1.Hosts Sri Lanka will face Bangladesh once again in a different format as the sides will fight it out in a three-match one day series. The first game will be played on Saturday on 25th March at 14:30 IST.
Sri Lanka are currently placed at sixth in the ICC Team Rankings for One Day Cricket with Bangladesh seven points below at seventh position which makes it an interesting series altogether.Sri Lanka hold a dominant record over the visitors in the format winning 33 games out of 38 played in one day cricket so dar.At home they have registered 14 wins out of 16 games which means it will take some doing to dislodge Sri Lanka in home conditions.
Upul Tharanga will lead Sri Lanka for the series as Angelo Matthews was ruled out of the contest due to injury. Niroshan Dickwella, Asela Gunaratne and Seekkuge Prasanna are promising young players who did tremendously well in Australia and South Africa. Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva are also good middle orders along with experience of Tharanga at the top of the order makes Sri Lanka a solid batting unit at home. Kusal Perera is out of the first two games due to injury. Dinesh Chandimal presence in the lineup will add experience and stability and has done at home with the bat in the last series against Australia.
Sri Lanka will depend on the likes of Seekkuge Prasanna, Sachith Pathirana and Lakshan Sandakan as spin options to provide wickets on pitches that will take turn. Suranga Lakmal and Lahiru Kumara are two pace options with Thisara Perera add as all-rounder.
Bangladesh showed fight but were reckless at times in New Zealand which proved to be their undoing in the one day series in New Zealand. The win at Colombo means that visitors will have momentum and confidence going into the series as Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah and Sabbir Rahman need to produce big runs due to their below par performances in New Zealand. Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Mortaza are three big players for the side due to their experience of playing for the side for almost a decade now. Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal is tipped to score 50 plus in the first game while Mustafizur Rahman could also be among wickets. Mashrafe Mortaza might consider Sunzamul Islam or Mehedi Hasan in the lineup in place of Subashis Roy and Rubel Hossain.
